Although the idea of an Island Night started out to be something for staff only, to help us through the depths of winter, it quickly morphed into something that the Franz Josef community got behind, and the 10 'recycled or natural material 'costume entries surprised everybody with their high quality and creativity.
Billy Whiteman, one of our esteemed, handpicked judges had this to say: "It was a fabulous night full of wonderment and surprises around every corner.." Operations Manager Wayne Jones said " It was a truly inspiring night to see the creativity that abounds in Franz Josef.' It was a celebration of the pacific islands, with all guests being given a lei on arrival, and a pina colada (which were so good even though alcohol free!) There was pig on a spit, bambi on a bbq, and plenty of blow up palm trees and the odd blow up monkey or two! The Glacier Hot Pools complex proved to be a perfect venue for a fashion show, with the boardwalks between the pools lit by fairy lights and looking like a million dollars. The background island music also added to the scene.
The winner of the competition won a unique trophy sculptured from recycled material, which was a work of art in itself. All in all we had a great response from everyone and they all want to know when Glacier Hot Pools is having another function like this
